Electro-acupuncture is the addition of a small electric current that is passed through the acupuncture needles for increased stimulation. The patient typically does not feel any discomfort. This treatment is appropriate for decreasing pain, reducing inflammation, and accelerating tissue healing.
Moxibustion involves the burning of the herb Ai Ye (mugwort) on or near acupuncture points to facilitate healing. It is used to strengthen and stimulate the flow of qi and blood, as well as maintain general health.
Cupping is the method of using glass jars to create a vacuum on the skin's surface. By drawing up the skin, the pores open. This promotes blood flow to the area, balances qi flow, breaks up obstruction, and allows a means for toxins to exit the body. Patients typically find this treatment to be quite soothing and relaxing.
Gua Sha involves rubbing the skin with a round-edged instrument to promote normal circulation, and rid tissue and muscles of metabolic waste by moving congested fluids.
